New Volkswagen Passat

The Volkswagen Passat has proved its popularity year after year since its launch in 1973 – and it’s not hard to see why. With its sleek styling, sumptuous interior and engaging drive, it gives business users and families alike plenty of reasons to get out and about as often as possible. Available as both a saloon and estate, it checks all the boxes for relaxed, confident motoring. The exciting new Passat for 2019 opened for order on Tuesday 9 July and continues in Estate and Saloon trims, featuring a facelift and an improved, simplified line-up available in premium specifications including SE, SE L, R Line, GTE/GTE Advance and Alltrack.

Exterior

More expressive and self-assured than ever before, the new Volkswagen Passat features fresh contours for a sharper overall look, as well as an updated front end that presents a more purposeful attitude. The wide grille design incorporates angular headlights, and muscular, sculpted shoulders give a feeling of power. A low profile brings an aerodynamic element to the design without compromising interior headroom, and an array of 13 body colours, including Bottle Green and Aurora Gold ensure you’ll stand out.

Interior

In a family car, space inevitably comes first. With its capacious cabin, the new Passat ensures there’s room for everyone, no matter how tall, and that luggage can be accommodated with ease. The innovative GTE estate variant is unaffected by the addition of batteries, with a generous 483 litres available for your belongings.

The model offers a premium experience too, with high-quality materials and careful finishes present throughout, as well as thoughtful touches such as adjustable ambient lighting, which enables you to set the mood for every journey.

Technology

With a host of technological features both on board and supporting your drive, the new Volkswagen Passat makes every outing both pleasurable and effortless. Access services such as Spotify and Amazon Music as you drive via Apple CarPlay and Android Auto integration, and communicate safely using the Bluetooth connection. All new Passats also come with Wireless App Connect as standard – a benefit for both safety and convenience.

Enhancing each journey are measures such as parking sensors, Driver Profile Selection and cruise control, which work to deliver confidence every time you take to the road. For your convenience there’s also hands-free opening for the boot – simply wave your foot beneath the rear bumper and the luggage compartment opens automatically. We have added safety technology as standard to make sure Passat keeps its five-star EuroNCAP rating. This includes ‘Travel Assist’, which is an amalgamation and evolution of Lane Assist and Adaptive Cruise Control. The two features work together, making a smoother driving experience at higher speeds.

Performance

One of the highlights of the new Volkswagen Passat is the estate model’s cutting-edge hybrid powertrain. The Passat Estate GTE incorporates plug-in hybrid technology to deliver an impressive range and exceptional fuel economy, allowing you to enjoy the same compelling drive but with a reduced carbon footprint. Able to cover 34 miles in electric-only mode (WLTP), it slashes emissions around town, and can be charged in less than four hours from an AC charger. Delivering a combined output of 215bhp too, there’s no compromise when it comes to power.

The new Passat is also available with a selection of petrol and diesel engines for those who prefer conventional fuel. Whichever variant you choose, you’re guaranteed the same smooth, sure-footed ride that the model has become known for, with well-weighted steering and strong grip complementing the drive.

Safety

Alongside space, safety is of paramount importance when you’re transporting your family, and the new Volkswagen Passat boasts plenty of measures to keep you all protected. Alongside basics such as stability control, traction control and a comprehensive airbag system, there are advanced measures in place like Front Assist with Pedestrian Monitoring, which works in low speed environments to prevent collisions. When the vehicle detects a pedestrian, it warns you to brake, and automatically applies the brakes should you fail to react.

The Travel Assist system, meanwhile, is an amalgamation of the Lane Assist and Adaptive Cruise Control functions, which ensure a safer, smoother experience at higher speeds. All this has helped the model to retain its five star rating from Euro NCAP.
