The Volkswagen I.D. Family

The future of Volkswagen Electric Mobility.

The countdown to the future.

The I.D. will be launched as a compact-class electric vehicle in 2020.

I.D. is a highly automated electric car that will cover a distance of 400 to 600 kilometres on a single battery charge. The production version of the I.D. is due to be launched in 2020 at a price on a par with comparably powerful and well-equipped Golf.

For Volkswagen, the world premiere of the iconic I.D. in Paris - with its iconic, fresh design - marks a watershed. This car is as revolutionary as the Beetle was seven decades ago and the first Golf was 40 years ago - which went on to become two of the world's most successful cars of all time. The I.D. has the potential to make history, too. It has been designed to be a compact all-rounder that will help to make electric cars the 'everyday' choice, with its impressive electric range and an attractive price.

The new I.D. CROZZ concept car combines the supremacy of an SUV with the dynamism of a coupé.

The new I.D. CROZZ is a crossover between an SUV and a four-door coupé that Volkswagen has further improved to bring it closer to series production. With a wide bonnet, clearly contoured wing panel and a high gloss back roof surface, the I.D. CROZZ makes a powerful and masculine statement.

The interior – the Open Space – with its generous amount of room and highly flexible seating concept, has been enhanced with a range of new features. As the I.D. CROZZ has no B-pillars, the large pivoting and sliding doors can open wide, allowing the driver to transport even a cyclocross bike easily.

The new Volkswagen CleanAir System ensures that the air in the interior is always pleasant to breathe, regardless of the environmental conditions. The menu informs the driver about both the air quality within the car and the system’s current activity. The improved I.D. CROZZ also features a new voice assistant that can open and close the doors with a simple spoken command. Other commands can activate and deactivate the fully-autonomous “I.D. Pilot” mode.

The new I.D. CROZZ has it all – it’s a sporty, interactive, emissions-free vehicle with an electric 4MOTION all-wheel drive system that feels perfectly safe even on loose surfaces and in adverse weather conditions. There is an engine on each of the front and rear axles, and power distribution is regulated via an electric propshaft. The 225 kW (system power) SUV has a range of 500 kilometres (NEDC**) per battery charge.

With a centrally integrated battery and two drive units in the front and rear, the I.D. CROZZ’s weight is perfectly balanced. This means that it boasts handling features on a similar level to that of a Golf GTI (Golf GTI: fuel consumption in l/100 km: urban 8.2 – 7.8 / extra-urban 5.5 – 5.3 / combined 6.4 – 6.3; CO₂ emissions combined g/km: 148 – 145; efficiency class: D). A considerable proportion of this is due to the running gear with electronic damping control, a newly developed multi-link rear suspension and new MacPherson suspension struts.

I.D. VIZZION the future flagship of the I.D. family

With the new I.D. VIZZION1, the Volkswagen brand has today given a glimpse of the individual mobility of the future on the evening before the Geneva International Motor Show. The full electric sedan will be the future top model of the I.D. family and will reach the roads by 2022 at the latest. In addition, it is prepared for fully autonomous driving. The I.D. VIZZION is part of Volkswagen’s major product and technology offensive. By 2025, the brand intends to sell at least 1 million electric cars per year and to become the market leader in e-mobility. Dr. Herbert Diess, CEO of the Volkswagen brand said: “The I.D. VIZZION shows what our brand is capable of in terms of technology, design and quality. It is the most personal, most emotional and most individual Volkswagen of all times. And it also shows that, even in the electric, self-driving future, we will be using desirable, expressive and individual automobiles – and not just uniform tin boxes.

The I.D. VIZZION is based on the newly developed modular electrification toolkit (MEB) and underscores the technological performance capabilities of this architecture. From the outside, it is as large as a Passat, but it offers as much space in the interior as a Phaeton. The interior has the shape and materials of a lounge. In addition, the radical simplification of operation makes for effortless mobility. Passengers can opt for entertainment, information, relaxation or work, in line with their personal wishes. The pure electric range of the model is up to 650 kilometers.

“The I.D. VIZZION is our very realistic vision for a Volkswagen of the future. And we will be offering this model – by the latest in 2022 as the top sedan in the I.D. family with the innovative I.D. cockpit and a steering wheel. The model will be prepared for fully autonomous driving. Step-by-step, it will relieve the driver of tasks – if the driver so wishes. With the I.D. VIZZION we are underlining Volkswagen’s claim: we want to be among the leaders in shaping the individual mobility of the future.

No other brand is tackling e-mobility as uncompromisingly as Volkswagen. With the MEB, Volkswagen has developed a powerful tool that covers the entire range of individual mobility. From compact cars to SUVs and large luxury limousines, everything is possible. By 2025, the Volkswagen Group will start production of more than 15 full electric models on the basis of the MEB. The first models are to be launched in 2020.
