SMALL BUT MIGHTY - UP! GTI

The up! is the latest, and smallest, model to be adorned with the famous GTI badge, giving drivers both young and not-so-young the chance to create (or recreate) great driving memories.

Following 42 years of GTI success, the up! GTI harks back to the 1976 Golf GTI Mk1 in both concept and power output. The up! GTI produces 115PS compared to the Mk1’s 110PS, and carefully judged dynamics see the new 1,070-kilogram up! GTI pay a modern day tribute to Volkswagen’s original hot hatch icon.

Starting from only £13750 and building on the already impressive base of the existing up!, the new GTI adds a 115PS 1-litre TSI three-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine, greater down force on the rear axle, sports running gear lowered by around 15mm compared to the standard car, and typical GTI insignia inside and out.

Offered in three- or five-doors, and with a six-speed manual gearbox, the up! GTI promises engaging performance blended with the typically practical attributes of Volkswagen’s popular four-seat A00 city car.

EXTERIOR STYLING

The three- and five-door models both feature GTI insignia, including the red trim strips on the front and rear, GTI badges on the front, rear and sides, 17-inch Oswald alloy wheels and red brake callipers on the front. The exterior also boasts electrically adjustable and heated wing mirrors with gloss black door mirror caps, black stripe lower door decals (not on black paint), sports bumpers on the front and rear, all topped off with tinted rear windows, a GTI roof spoiler and chrome exhaust tailpipe.

The up! GTI’s sporty looks are exaggerated by the sports suspension, which sits the car closer to the road, and the halogen headlamps with separate daytime running lights.

INTERIOR STYLING

Inside, the impressive GTI features continue with the classic ‘Jacara’ tartan seat fabric, GTI door sill panel trims and a special GTI gear knob. The multi-function steering wheel comes with red stitching and the GTI logo in the vertical spoke.

The car interior also features red ambient lighting, ‘3D’ red pixels dash with chrome trims to the heating vents and an infotainment console, a black roof liner and front and rear carpet mats front with red stitching.

Despite its clear sporty design, the up! GTI still maintains the comfort and convenience features to makes journeys enjoyable, including heated front seats, manual air conditioning, electric front windows and a variable boot floor.
