The ID range consists entirely of electric vehicles (EV), each designed to combine eco-friendly motoring and ultra-low running costs with all the positive qualities of a regular car.
As EVs go, the Volkswagen ID.5 is a particularly stylish example. This coupé-SUV combines the aesthetic qualities of the classic coupé – a swooping roofline, most notably – and the reassuring muscularity of an SUV. And thanks to its raised ground clearance and four-door body, it’s a pleasingly practical vehicle, offering easy access for rear-seated travellers.
There’s space inside for five, with generous levels of head and legroom, even in the rear compartment. The ID.5’s 549-litre boot is a most welcome feature too, particularly since it increases to 1,561 litres with rear seats folded.
Entry-level Style trims are fitted with a six-speaker sound system, which includes DAB radio, four USB-C ports and Bluetooth connectivity. Wireless App-Connect is also issued as standard, allowing you to mirror your Apple or Android smartphone via the car’s 12-inch Discover Max Navigation touchscreen display.
One of the ID.5’s most significant characteristics is its maximum 313-mile range, made possible by a 77kWh battery and electric motor. Of course, there’s no reason not to enjoy efficiency and enhanced performance levels, which is where the ID.5 GTX comes in, producing a considerable 295bhp, enabling 0-62mph in just 6.3 seconds.
