Offering plenty of fun whatever the weather, the Volkswagen Golf Cabriolet takes the World Car of the Year 2013 winner and adds top-down thrills.
This two-door, four-seater convertible comes in five different model variants and looks effortlessly sporty and fun, regardless of whether the roof is up or down. Body-coloured bumpers, mirrors and door handles and the bold front air intake and grille all add to the car's vigorous look. Optional bi-Xenon headlights, side skirts and a rear spoiler are available for drivers who want to make their model even sportier. The fabric top is specially designed with sound proofing, and takes just 9.5 seconds to remove. When the top is off, a wind deflector is available to reduce noise inside the cabin and cut down on turbulence.
Inside the Golf Cabriolet, the sporty theme continues, with chrome highlights and red stitch detailing on the steering wheel, as well as optional aluminium-look pedals and inserts.
The car's comfortable seats are upholstered in Merlin cloth, although optional leather seats are available for a still more refined finish. The fully-adjustable steering column ensures an optimum driving position. Additional features include air conditioning, Bluetooth® connectivity, MP3 and USB connectivity. Rear folding seats provide extra internal space when it's needed and a total of 250 litres of space is available in the boot thanks to the clever way the roof folds.
A total of six different engines are available for this model. The most efficient is the 1.6-litre TDI with BlueMotion Technology and a five-speed manual transmission, which is capable of delivering 64.2mpg combined. Offering the most performance is the 2.0-litre TSI engine, which can deliver 261bhp and take the cabriolet from 0-60mph in just under 6.4 seconds.
As you would expect, technology plays a significant part in the build of the Golf Cabriolet.
The vehicle's multifunction steering wheel, for example, adds to the luxurious feel of the car as well as providing access to various features such as the radio and stereo system, and phone controls. A range of features help to improve safety, including front fog lights to boost visibility in poor weather conditions. The sharply-angled windscreen with sturdy A-pillars helps to protect occupants in the event of an accident, along with multiple airbags and a rollover protection system. Front and rear parking sensors are there to help make squeezing into tight spaces safer and as simple as possible.
