What is a ŠKODA MOT?

Your vehicle’s annual MOT test is an essential part of routine maintenance. Once a car reaches three years old, it is legally required to undergo an MOT every year. This inspection covers a wide range of components and systems, including seatbelts, lights, tyres, brakes, and fuel and exhaust systems. It enables our technicians to identify and fix any existing issues, as well as highlight work that needs to be performed over the coming year.

At Des Winks ŠKODA our prices for MOT testing start from just £54.85, making them highly affordable. All ŠKODA MOTs are carried out by fully trained and DVSA-accredited ŠKODA mechanics who understand the smallest details about each and every ŠKODA model. Should we identify an issue that is easily remedied, we’ll obtain your permission before fixing it using genuine ŠKODA parts. This guarantees the ongoing performance and safety of your vehicle. Any extensive work will need to be booked in at a later date.

Once your vehicle passes its MOT, you’ll be issued with a certificate as proof of its roadworthiness.

How can I help my car pass its MOT?

Every year, some 1.5 million vehicles fail their MOT – and often it’s due to the simplest issues that can be addressed before the car is inspected. Here’s how you can help your car to pass its MOT:

1. Headlights and indicators

Check all the vehicle’s lights are functioning correctly – including the headlights, sidelights, reversing lights and indicators.

2. Brake lights

Check the brake lights are functioning correctly, either with the help of a friend or by using a reflective surface to view the lights as you press the brake pedal.

3. Number plate

Check that the number plate is legible, and that the font and spacing of the letters meet legal requirements.

4. Wheels and tyres

Ensure there is no damage to the wheels and tyres, and check the tread depth of your tyres. The tread should be at least 1.6mm in depth across the middle third of the tyre.

5. Seats and seatbelts

Slide the driver’s seat forwards and backwards, and give each seatbelt a sharp tug to ensure they all lock as required.

6. Windscreen

Ensure there no cracks or chips are obscuring the view through the windscreen.

7. Windscreen wipers

Check there are no tears or holes in the wiper rubber, as this can cause an MOT failure.

8. Screenwash

Top up the vehicle’s screenwash before taking it to the test centre.
