Offering the perfect combination of style and space, the ŠKODA Rapid & Rapid Spaceback is ideal for anyone wanting a versatile hatchback with room to spare.
The upgraded Rapid and Rapid Spaceback models were unveiled at the Geneva International Motor Show. Both cars feature new engines, re-designed exterior features, and state-of-the-art connectivity and infotainment systems.
The new-look cars feature modified fog lights, a wider-looking front end, black-tinted covers on the taillights in the trademark C-shape configuration with optional LED technology on Rapid. The Spaceback SE Sport also has an extended rear window.
Rapid and Rapid Spaceback are now available with bi-xenon lights, with LED daylight running lights (DRL). Light Assistant activates the DRL when the ignition is started. A sensor then measures exterior light conditions and switches the headlights on or off automatically, as and when required.
At speeds greater than 37mph, the high-beam assistant detects vehicles ahead (up to a distance of 400 metres), as well as on-coming traffic (up to 1,000 metres) and dims the lights as appropriate.
A 1.0-litre TSI engine, in two power levels, is now available for Rapid and Spaceback. Weighing 10 kilograms less than the previously-used 1.2-litre unit thanks to the omission of the balance shaft, the new engine has reduced consumption and CO2 emissions.
The oil pump achieves the same effect without the balance shaft thanks to a flow-adjustable output; the required oil pressure is continuously adapted to the engine load. The intercooler turbocharger is integrated into the intake manifold, which means that the charge pressure automatically builds up.
The two 1.0 TSI engines join the existing powertrains, which are all equipped with brake energy recovery, a start-stop system and meet EU6 emissions standards. The common rail diesels all feature particulate filters.
New inlays have been added to the four doors. The air vents in the dashboard, the instruments and the control panel of the manual air-conditioning system have also been re-designed.
The new, optional ŠKODA Connect services comprise:
Infotainment Online is available with Amundsen satellite-navigation and offers online traffic guidance. Fuel stations and current prices, parking space availability, current news and weather forecasts can all be viewed at the touch of a button.
The ŠKODA Connect app gives remote access vehicle information, such as whether the windows, doors or sunroof are closed, or the fuel level of the Rapid or Rapid Spaceback.
It’s also possible to send navigation information to the car and display its current parking position on the smartphone.
