Now in its seventh generation, the Volkswagen Golf GTI is a motoring icon, offering the perfect combination of performance and style.
Available in three variants – the GTI, GTD and high-performance R – these models are known for their exceptional style and ability to turn heads. Lowered sports suspension gives the cars a wide and powerful stance, and also aids handling.
The GTI comes with red brake callipers and the GTI logo emblazoned on the front. A black honeycomb radiator, front air intake grille and side skirts all add to the dynamic and sporty appearance. Bi-Xenon headlights with daytime LED running lights, alloy wheels and rear LED light clusters are found across the three cars. Body-coloured bumpers and mirrors also come as standard across the range, as do integrated rear roof spoilers.
Inside the cabins of the Golf GTI, GTD and R, multifunction leather steering wheels and ergonomic controls emphasise the fact that with these models, the driver is at the centre of everything. A sense of luxury and refinement is evident throughout the interiors, thanks to the use of high-quality materials. Chrome detailing, black roof lining, illuminated door sill strips and stainless steel pedals are found across the three models as standard. Two-zone temperature control ensures a comfortable atmosphere, while a multifunction colour display, Bluetooth® connectivity and an optional voice-activated audio system help ensure a comfortable journey.
Performance is what these cars are all about. Leading the way is the Golf R with its exceptionally powerful 2.0 litre TSI petrol engine, offering 296bhp and a 0-60mph time of just under 4.9 seconds. It is the fastest Golf produced to date.
For drivers who want to retain a high level of performance but also have an eye on efficiency and day-to-day running costs, there's the 2.0 litre TDI. Available on the Golf GTD, this engine manages to deliver up to 67.3mpg combined. The GTI meanwhile comes with a 2.0-litre TSI petrol engine. This is capable of delivering 271bhp, fuel efficiency of up to 47.1mpg combined and a 0-60mph time of just under 6.5 seconds.
Sports suspension across all the cars and a variety of active safety system helps deliver a smooth and stable ride with minimum roll, even when cornering hard.
The latest technology is used throughout the GTI, GTD and R models. Electric mirrors, rain-sensitive wipers, progressive steering, and automatic start/stop technology to increase efficiency are all present. An optional satellite navigation system can be added to any model or specification.
Safety features are plentiful, with multiple airbags, a driver alert system, Adaptive Cruise Control, ABS and ISOFIX child seat restraints offered as standard. In addition, the cars feature brake pad wear indicators, a tyre pressure monitoring system and a courtesy headlight feature that will keep the beams on to light your way to the front door.
